Ways For Navigating The Job Search Process

Monday, March 29th, 2010

Especially in tough economic times, finding the perfect job can be challenging. In some cases, especially if you really need the job, you might have to settle for something less than perfect.

You can take some steps to ensure that you don’t end up in such a job. These steps will help you in finding that one job that suits you the best in terms of remuneration, job satisfaction, future growth and many other benefits as well.

If you enjoy working in a particular field, then you should try to network with people in that field. This way, there is always a possibility that you might get a job in the field of your interest. Networking also helps you in finding a job that otherwise does not get advertised.

Try to reflect about the things that you didn’t like in your previous job in order to not repeat the same mistake again. If you are uncertain about what you want, try taking a personality test which may help enlighten you on who you really are.

You should also make sure that your resume is up to date, and that it accurately highlights not only your past experience but also your overall strengths. When submitting a resume, you should update it as needed for the specific type of job you want.

Always add references that specifically pertain to the field in which you are applying for a job. This can help you in finding that right job.

Working with a recruiter can also be extremely helpful when job hunting. Recruiters have the type of contacts that can help you find the perfect job, especially for higher pay scale positions.

Job fairs can also be a great way of meeting potential employers, especially if you are looking for entry-level positions. Internet job listing sites are also a good resource to use when looking for the perfect job.

How Small Business Entrepreneurs Attract Success

Monday, March 29th, 2010

Perhaps you’re new to business. Or maybe you already own your own business - you just wish it were doing better. Either way, the Law of Attraction sees you as already abundantly successful. Keep reading and discover why.

I don’t claim this as a way to brainwash your mind through law of attraction fantasies (they aren’t very effective, as you may have experienced). The only reason I say it is that, as far as the universe is concerned, it’s the truth. Which gives you the opportunity to know it as truth also.

All you have to do is start to see your life through the eyes of your Inner Being, or soul.

When any person reaches the stage where becoming a business owner emerges as their preferred path ahead in life it’s such a stand-out win for self determination that the entire universe celebrates.

This is the case even if it looks like you got laid off, or you searched for a job for a year and couldn’t find one, and now becoming a small business entrepreneur seems like your only possibility.

When you see your life that way - through whatever circumstances you appear to find yourself in - you’re overlooking the major reason for turning to the law of attraction. Which is: knowing that when you ask the universe says yes. You now have the chance to experience the truth of universal law acting in your life.

Once you see how the universe loves and supports you always, you step into a place of freedom and inner security that’s yours forever. Why not allow yourself to receive your security from the universe and life from that awareness now?

As a small business entrepreneur you’ve already taken the most important step in attracting success. The fact that you are in a position to own (or plan to own) a business is evidence you’ve already succeeded beyond the dreams of nearly everyone on the planet. At the level of your soul, you’ve asked for the self expression, freedom, and opportunity to serve that small business owners are blessed to have in our society.

It’s not possible that you could attract the opportunity and desire to own a business out of nowhere. Whether you’re aware of it yet or not, you can only attract opportunity and desire when you already have what it takes - and when the idea of it feels exhilarating.

In truth, you have already removed the two major work-related stresses that exist. This makes you incredibly awesome.

Work stress #1: you’ve moved on from life as a powerless, worried employee. You’re not constantly expecting to lose your job. You’re not working frantically to get everything done - everything that three people used to do before 2 of them got laid off.

Work stress #2: you’re not worried and unemployed - doing everything possible to get a new job, desperately sending out resumes and hearing nothing back. You aren’t feeling the disappointment of being told that 2043 people have applied for the same position your interviewing for but you “definitely place in the top half.” And if you do manage to find a new job, you’re back living with work stress #1.

Hear this: 95% of all jobs are slavery. Congratulations on your liberation.

Whether you realize it or not, what you said to the universe is: I want responsibility for my income and my satisfaction in work. Then you attracted to yourself the idea of owning a business. If you could only see your angels cheering, clapping, and planning an ongoing series of astounding “coincidences” and unexpected good fortune on the road ahead.

So stop thinking like a slave. Your top responsibility as a small business entrepreneur is to do whatever it takes to remember that you are powerful and the universe always responds to you in a loving and generous way.

Your success is all around you. Look for, acknowledge and celebrate success in any area of your life. Too often, we focus on what we don’t have yet and completely overlook what we do have. I

When you change your focus even a little bit, you quickly step into the flow of success.

Setting Goals: How To Do It

Sunday, March 28th, 2010

People set their goals differently, depending on their current situation, resources, physical capacity and other factors. You can, however, follow some key guidelines to make sure that your goals are credible and possible. Too many individuals set their goals too high unknowingly, only to fail and stay frustrated for the rest of their lives. Here are some tips for you to use in order to avoid failure and disappointment.

Being Specific

Being specific involves writing down the complete details of what you want. An example would be, “I have earned one million dollars by the end of this year.” Another is this, “I am the main sales supervisor of my division within 6 months from today.” or “My next door neighbor, Bob and I are forging a very good friendship between now and next month.” It is best to include amounts, dates, the title and names. The more detailed the better, so mention all aspects of what you want. Include them in your goal. This helps to condition your mind to begin working towards the accomplishment of your goal. You want to be specific and clear. Clarity and specificity increases your focus, which in turn, improves your odds for hitting your goal.

Make it Measurable

Your goal needs to be measurable. You need to have a goal that is easy to break down into manageable parts. If it is measurable then it is easier for you to determine your progress. By attempting to accomplish the separate parts you are more able to easily stay on track. You simply complete each phase and move on to the next. That way you are never stuck wondering if you are moving forward or standing still. A measurable goal gives you an added advantage.

Importance of Having It Time Bound

In order to achieve your goals set deadlines. Having deadlines protects you from the failure that results from procrastination. Keep very tight and specific time-lines when scheduling your goals. An example is, ” I am spending an hour a day with my family beginning next Tuesday. You want to be sure to write down the exact date and time. When you put a deadline on the goal you give yourself added incentive to get it done and not put it off to a more convenient time. It is better to set a date for your goal. That way you will want to start working towards accomplishing it now.

Achieve Your Dreams With A Goal Setting Session

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

Many people have ideas or visions in their minds of where they want to be in their life. Whether it is in your career or personal life, setting expectations and meeting them is one way of translating your visions into reality. Without goal setting your visions will most likely stay just that, a vision.

When you intertwine the goal process into your life, it will help you succeed in achieving what it is you want to achieve in. Take notice of the general goals in your life. The ones that sound a little like ‘I want to buy a new car’. This is a general goal with out any details of as to how you plan on achieving it. You have to pinpoint what are the necessary steps that need to be taken in order to achieve this goal.

Small steps leading you toward your goal are vital, because it is in these steps that you will find yourself making progress. Your journey will include a number of considerations that you will need to take in for your success. In order to be successful you must find a plan of action that incorporates your goals and works for you as well.

Helping you move forward is a journal that will help you set and track your goals. Whether you want to check back on a daily or weekly basis, this is up to you. It will most likely depend on the type of goal you are setting. If you are aiming to lose 15 pounds, you may want to check in regularly, on a daily basis with your journal. This will help you stay on track with both eating and exercise. It will also help keep you encouraged by measuring your progress.

If you have a monetary goal of saving $10,000 in order to invest, you may want to check in on a weekly basis. Write down how you avoided superfluous expenses at the mall and how much you have saved for the week, which is bringing you closer to achieving your goal. With a journal you can applaud yourself for the bad habits you are breaking and the good ones you are creating. You can actually see the progress you are making as well.

Before you begin writing down all of your goals, get yourself in a good mood. Listen to inspirational tapes, or read an inspiring passage. Take a deep breath or go for a relaxing walk in order to clear your mind beforehand. This is because when you are in your positive state you will most likely be true to yourself without the negative thoughts veiling your wants.

Once you are in this positive state of mind jot down your goals. You do not have to write the details down, just what you envision for yourself in this positive state of mind. This is the time to really write down your dreams (action plan comes later).

You may also consider setting time frames for your goals. These can revolve around short or long term periods. Set a time frame realistically in order to set yourself up for success as opposed to failure.

Once you have this written down you can revisit the list you created during your goal setting session. It is now time to detail your goals. Visualize your goal to the tee and write it down. Then write down your step by step action plan that will help you realize your vision.

Athletes don’t become record holders by chance - it is only through effective goal setting. measure goals If you’re not absolutely clear about what your goal is, you can’t commit to it. Value assessment - You must find out which of your values are important to you in terms of job and career satisfaction.

How To Handle Their Ego, But What About Yours?

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

Ego kicks in anytime someone challenges your abilities, especially your abilities to do your business, your immediate and instinctive reaction is to prove them wrong! When employing this tactic, be careful to avoid damaging the ego. VERY IMPORTANT: When you cause damage instead of producing a challenge, you will create an air of indifference from your prospect.

Sports coaches use another challenge to the ego in a team environment. For instance during football practice one of the players is not giving it 100%, doesn’t make meeting on time, or makes the same mistake over and over, the coach has the perfect ego based solution. He call a team meeting explains to the teams what been going on with this particular player. He then has every one on the team except the guilty player run some laps. The punishment is a challenge to that football player’s ego. Situations like that only have to take place once to be persuasive for each member of the team.

We face many challenging messages geared toward our egos. For instance a multilevel marketing meeting, managers might say they are only looking for “go-getters” and “people who know how to take action.” A teacher may say to a student, “I’d like you to do these advanced assignments”. I have witnessed sale reps make a subtle attack on their prospect’s ego when they felt they were not making the sale. They said something like, “I guess you do not have the authority to make the decision.” You should see how quickly the ego kicks in!

Another way is to give people credit for things they don’t know. When you do this they will generally say nothing and allow you to believe them to be smarter and more aware than they really are. Then they will try to live up to the undeserved credit you have just bestowed upon them, just so they can lead you to believe they are really smart. Here are a couple more phrases that are direct challenges to our egos, “You probably already know….” or “You will soon realize…”

When it comes to persuasion we are faced with a very tricky task of building up the egos of our prospects and placing our egos on hold. To be effective at persuasion you have to let go you your ego and focus on the objective at hand. You don’t want to have to deal with a bruised ego. So check your ego at the door and remember your overriding purpose is on persuasion and not you.

Thinking of A Central Innovation Team?

Sunday, March 14th, 2010

Central innovation teams are a model which have been well adopted in many industries. Pharma, for example, is typified by large development budgets which tend to be centralised in teams set up for the purpose of innovating drugs. In banking, as another example, there will regularly be many New Product Development teams who dream up new things for specific business lines. Even in Government, there is an increasing focus on central innovation in the never-ending pursuit of efficiency and cost savings.

It is not hard to understand the reason. Central teams are simple to set up, and very easy to measure in comparison to diffuse arrangements that rely on an “innovation culture”. It is easy to point at such teams and say “this is how we do innovation”. The team makes executives feel good that their innovation efforts are actually progressing, because when you can nominate specific individuals and assign accountability, you know things are likely to get done.

In the central team model, it is usually the innovation team that decides what and when innovations will be progressed. They will have an investment budget of some kind, and will be accountable for driving forward the innovation agenda. If they are any good at all, they will agree to a big financial return number which will justify the investments they have decided to make.

There is, however, a problem with a central innovation team that does everything. The problem is that in order to get more innovation, you are forced to add more people. In other words, central innovation teams do not scale well.

Generally, for most innovations, the amount of effort required to get an organisation to do radical versus incremental innovation is really not all that great. You still have to manage the politics, you still have to do all the influencing to get stakeholders on board, and of course, you still have to find the money to make things progress.

Incremental innovations, though they tend to be relatively risk free compared to their radical cousins, don’t generally make big returns individually. You need to be doing a lot of them before you can make a sizeable difference. With a central team, you often find the individual incremental innovations don’t pay for the time of the innovators.

On the other hand, doing things which are more radical can provide much better returns, though the risk level is much higher. For innovators, this makes it seem sensible to select more radical innovation for progression. The rationale is clear: do incremental and never break even, or do radical and at least have the chance to do so.

What is really needed to make innovation work in large organisations is a balanced approach which combines a portfolio with inputs from customers and employees. Participatory innovation, as this is known, helps the central innovation team reduce its costs per innovation, and is usually the best way to make an innovation programme work in large organisations.

Are you deciding on an innovation system? If so, you’ll want to review the notes from James Gardner’s free online innovation ebook when implementing your innovation team.

Want Free Publicity? Create a Fact Sheet

Friday, March 12th, 2010

The best way to get free publicity is to send a press release to the media. But keep in mind, a press release is meant to be a basic pitch to get journalists interested in your story idea. It contains the hook of the story and some basic information. Sometimes you need to give reporters and show bookers a little more information to seal the deal.

For this reason, many people who are serious about getting publicity create what is called a press kit, which may include, among other items, a photo, a list of suggested questions and a fact sheet.

One of the key tools that publicists and media-savvy entrepreneurs use is the fact sheet. Fact sheets are easy to create, all you have to do is write down a list of facts that pertain to your press release.

Let’s say that your are a real estate broker or agent. You might want to create a list that contains such items as the following:

Median price that homes sell for in your town.

Media price a year ago, six months ago

An indication of the average length of time a house in your town is on the market this year vs the same time period last year.

You might also want to list some facts about your company, especially if you’re beating the competition. Some of the things you can include might be:

The number of homes you’ve sold this year or the average per month

The average number of homes sold by all the realtors in your area

Number of years in business

The number of agents that work out of your office

One of the many good things about fact sheets is that you can create as many different ones as you like, each of which can support a specific press release. Use them well and you will be able to get free publicity on a consistent basis. Just remember what the used to say in the old “Dragnet” movie and the TV show before that, “Just the facts, ma’am.
